If a child is fortunate enough to get into a Zambian public school, education is free until seventh grade. From 8th to 12 grades, families must pay 600 kwacha per child per year as tuition fees, in addition to paying for uniforms and school supplies. For many Zambian families, this cost is too great to bear and children as young as 11 years old are denied an education, thereby continuing the cycle of extreme poverty and its negative effects such as crime, addictions school drop outs and many more. Girls are particularly at risk of devastating social evils such as child marriage and prostitution.

You can do something about this and make a difference. Your contribution of US $30 for tuition fees and $50 for uniform and supplies will have give a child an opportunity to go to school and break the cycle of poverty. For the same amount of money you may spend on a fun outing, you can sponsor a child for a year, possibly rescuing him or her from a tragic fate.
