Kids Clubs

This is one of HOPE Worldwide Zambia’s core programs implemented in the four sites of Kalingalinga, Mtendere, Chawama and Kanyama community of Lusaka. The Club build resilience and educate children aged 2 – 18 years. The Clubs are segmented into the age range of 2-6, 7-12, 13-18. The Clubs are conducted every Saturday when they are not in school. Apart from the lessons conducted in the Clubs we have special activity such as education tours, inter-site tournament and Christmas parties.

We have incorporated the after-school program into Kids Clubs to inspire girl to resume and complete their education. Parents also play a very important role in a girl child’s education circle same applies to a male child, hence they are part of our programming activities. The topics that are covered in the session are early marriages, Gender Based Violence (GBV), HIV/AIDS, sexual reproductive health, psychosocial care. This is demonstrated through:

  • Outreach: This consists of the educational performance conducted in the community to sensitize/educate the community at large on HIV/AIDS, Comprehensive
Sexuality Education (CSE), gender, hygiene etc in schools,
churches and its presented in form of Sketches/drama, cultural dance performances in markets and community centers eg sports/civic center.
  • Educational tour: This aspect is for the children to be able to visit places such as the museum, airport, parliament, zoo, et cetera, in order to inspire them to dream big for their future. This motivates them to work hard and focus on education. This is also one way of gaining exposure to the outside world and change of the mindset.
  • Inter-site tournament: This activity brings out the talents and creativeness of the children in the four sites as they friendly compete against each other. It is also one way of bringing our children together and enabling them to socialise and learn from each other. The activity is compromised by sketches/drama, culture dances, poetry, debate, fun games and singing.
  • Christmas Party: It’s for the children to be able to celebrate Christmas and experience a good time. It is is made a special evening for the children as they are given a festive meal as well.
